Virtual Reality

So this is it. The last project ever for IDS 2141. Just want to thank you for joining me on this journey. This class was one of my favorites despite being on the struggle bus for so long.

Limitations:

-I knew how to use the 3D function.

-I knew how to used the assets with pasting whatever color or “physical appearance” I wanted.

-I did not know how to add sound or any other extra stuff.

….that’s it.

“THE HOUSE AMONG THE BARREN”

So due to my limitations I made the easiest thing that I could come to mind. A house. The thing that saved me in this project was the “Duplicate” function. So the first thing I did was make the base and drag a grassy asset to to it. Now since I didn’t know how to make sophisticated trees, I stuck with the basic 3D object of a tree and duplicated a total of 75 of them. I did make the mistake if duplicating bare white ones instead of importing the bark on just one and duplicating that edited one. I ended up wasting so much energy dragging the bark onto a tree 75 times…stupid. But whatever. The one thing that took the longest was spacing them out randomly across the land and making sure I had space for the house. Honestly, I spaced them too close at first and then had to re-space it again because I had to enlarge the grass cube and make the land bigger. Hence it looking like a bare land with just tree trunks jutting out of the goddamn thing. But this made it better for me to focus on the sexiness of the house. Which was the center of attention.

Now before we go about the process of the house, just know that throughout the whole thing I FORGOT to screenshot pictures of the actual hard work throughout it. SO I had to make a separate project, quickly redoing some steps in order to show and prove that I did it. Which is why the pictures above are a little different than the actual product. I just made a clump of trees and builded some of the cubes that made the house. Now I really was channeling some of the sorority houses at FSU hence all the columns and triple story house…no I do not live in a sorority house, but it was the first thing that came to mind. I first made the base layer and then added the little stairs to what would be the front porch. And I used that same exact concept to build the other two cubes by duplicating them on top of each other. Then made a roof within 2nd floor and effectively made a 3rd one with that. Two layers of columns were used for the 2nd and 3rd floor simply because I thought it looked cute, but more importantly it was easier to maneuver since all I had to do was “Duplicate” then drag the copy on top of one another.

After the house was made, I tested “playing” on it. And I realized that I couldn’t go inside because I didn’t know how to make that happen. SO I thought, what could be outside house?….A POOL. Yep, I made a cute little side house pool, with lounging chairs and all. Took a few more hours…..AND THEN I played it and FORGOT TO SAVE IT. As soon as I exited out of playing mode, the pool DISAPPEARED. Honestly so annoying that I had to redo it. ANYWAYS. I added a table and remembered one of my friend’s house had this tiny cute hut on the corner of the backyard. SUPER CUTE. SO I added a hut. And then added another table on the patio of the pool. The chairs were difficult since they were tiny and I had to make detailed cubed on top of each other I just duplicated the columns of the front of the house and inserted it under the chairs. It wasn’t as hard as the lounging chairs though. Rotating the rectangular cubes were so hard to perfect since I kept making it wonky. I didn’t bother putting legs on those…too much work. But they ended up looking cute regardless. The last thing I did was decorate it with colors. Honestly, the Standard Assets import did not have a lot to work with, so I ended up using bark and other earthy materials to make it look cute. For example, the window frames were actually the grassy material. IT ENDED UP LOOKING GOOD THOUGH. Like some fancy house panting on there. Honestly, inspires me to do that to my own house.

All in all, I kinda liked this project. It was bitter sweet since I did this last minute for sure, but I think despite me not knowing the rest of the material a.k.a. putting in the sounds and stuff. I did pretty well. It definitely looks like some architectural design project but I do love HGTV so I had fun.

The video link above is an unlisted YouTube video of my sister going through it really quickly. I took a minute of showing her how to maneuver around unity but yeah.
